Every time I go back to my hometown I realize how things have - TopicsExpress

Every time I go back to my hometown I realize how things have changed. How people have changed. From that young black mustached dad to the old burgundy haired man, from that fine chirpy lively lady to a little silent and worried mom. The red water filter got replaced by the new Aquaguard. The single floored building is now triple floored. Back then, there were more people to live and there were fewer rooms and now there are more rooms but just two people to live. I remember how I ran my scooty into an open drainage with one of my friends on the back seat. And we were not concerned about the cuts and bruises, but were concerned of the people around who were laughing like parrots. The friends have changed too. They are either married or about to get married. The innocence of Ringa Ringa Roses and the mischief of chor and sipahi are lost somewhere in time. The sister who was expected to come home from school and describe her daily school activities in one breath is not there anymore, but in a remote town in some part of India preparing for her Engineering entrance exams. The questions have changed from how was your exam beta? to when are you getting married?. The friendly teacher in the colony died last month. And that dog too which scared me every time I went to my friend’s house. The TV at home remains unattended and the remote unnoticed, there are no fights over remote these days. After so much has changed and so much has improved and time has passed, still when you go back to your home, you know that this is the place where you belong. I can’t be 16 today and I won’t be 26 tomorrow. Lessons? None. No wait there is one, not a lesson actually but a fact. We are the new old. Yes us, the 20 somethings. We wish to go back in time and cherish those memories, those stories, those moments. But we know that’s not possible. #Asva*
