Every time I sit down to write about the Je Suis Charlie hypocrisy and yet another orgy of patriotism, I just can’t make it beyond the disgust and anger I feel. The US, France, UK and others in their posse have outdone themselves in laying ruin to brown, especially Muslim, nations. Iraq, the most ancient of ancient civilizations is a heap of misery we can hardly rummage through. The enlightened west raped Iraq. They looted her treasures, bombed her bridges and roads, polluted her waters, plummeted her literacy rate, made beggars of her teachers and doctors. They dismantled Libya, one of the most stable and prosperous Arab/African nations, and plunged her into a spiral of de-development. They are brutally erasing Palestine, another ancient society, as if the last 3000 never happened in that land. They have murdered journalists and children and old people and young people. Women and men. They empowered the most extreme elements in our midst to run amok with violent ideologies gutting us all further. All the while, they vomit their stupid insipid and tired narrative of the savage brown people who must be civilized, tamed, or destroyed. And into that gaping, gushing wound they rub salt by mocking and ascribing filth to sacred Muslim icons and their most revered prophet. Spare me the sanctimonious, holier-than-thou spiel about free speech and notice that finger you’re wagging in my face is dripping with my brother’s blood.
