Every time there’s a famous person dies, I think, “Oh, that’s sad”. And then almost immediately, “I wonder what I can say about that on the social media” (I KNOW). And the answer is usually, “Well, not a lot, I’ve got The Velvet Underground & Nico and Transformer somewhere, but I only liked about two songs on either and he might have been Seminal and Important but he was a bit grumpy really.” Or something like that. And then I realise that isn’t any kind of meaningful contribution, so I don’t say anything. But there are famous people out there that I have something interesting to say about when they die. But only about ten or twelve of them. And then I find myself thinking about what I’m going to say when they die, and that’s a bit weird, because Eric Cantona’s not dead yet and won’t be dead for a long time, hopefully. But they’re there, on a list, waiting to be ticked off. I’m pretty sure I can’t be the only person that does this. Basically, I’m saying Facebook and Twitter and famous people dying have come together to create some kind of macabre Celebrity Death Bingo.
