President Uhuru Kenyatta is today expected to launch the Kes. 6 billion Uwezo Fund. The event is scheduled to begin at the University of Nairobi Chancellors’ Court at 1.00 p.m. The Fund will enable the youth and women across the country access interest-free loans as start- up capital for small and micro businesses of varying amounts not exceeding Kshs. 500,000. Only a 15000 shillings one-off administration fee will be payable for each loan. The Uwezo fund will also enable the youth, women and Persons with Disabilities to bid for procurement opportunities in the the 30% Government procurement preference accorded to them. Resources under the Fund will be disbursed directly to beneficiaries through the Constituency Development Fund framework, under the administration of committees that have been established at each constituency.
