Every year thousands of Canada geese winter in the Wichita, Kansas greater metropolitan area. The urban goose phenomenon is quite interesting. The geese have discovered that they are virtually predator free (including humans) while in the city area and become quite affable at times. It is not unusual to see them during the later stages of winter walking around in all sorts of places such as fast food parking lots. They have the benefit of few predators and abundant food in the cultivated fields and lawns inside and outside of town. It is not unusual to see hundreds or even thousands of geese hunkered down for the night in the wheat fields of the outlying suburbs with city traffic only yards away...........
