In all the busyness that is life at Immanuel - Voices on the Coast, the Immanuel Arts Festival and two grand finals in two weeks - its fitting to recognise the achievements of our chess players during the recent Sunshine Coast Interschool Individual Chess Championships. Attracting over 300 students, Immanuel was represented by 29 students from the Junior and Secondary School and was one of the top performing schools. Highlights included Kai Jankowiak (Year 7) being the overall winner of the tournament and Sunshine Coast School Chess Champion for 2014. In the Open A (Over 12 years) Division, Ryan Johann took 3rd place (on a tie-break) along with Jack O’Hagan. In the Premier Division, Bailey White placed 2nd in Under 18, Joshua Carrier and Rhys Fuller 3rd in the Under 16 and Kai Jankowiak 1st in the Under 14 divisions. All students are to be congratulated for their performance during the tournament and for the manner in which they represented the College throughout the day.It bodes well for the team competition which will be held on 26 August.
