Everyone read this article: We are already 10 days into the suspensions that MLB announced on August 5th. We’ll take a look at how A-ROD, the league and the Yankees took this sanction, and who won the first round. As MLB announced the suspension of A-ROD, other 12 players were suspended that afternoon, with the only difference that every other player on that suspension took a 50-game suspension, whereas A-ROD took a 211-game sanction by mere speculations instead of facts, which he obviously decided to appeal. We can say that A-ROD can take with ease a 50-game sanction because of the Biogenesis scandal, in which he allegedly bought substances, let assume that as a fact since he admitted his steroid use during 2001-03. But, how can we accept as a fact that A-ROD purchased documents to destruct Biogenesis evidence (when the MLB did found evidence), and that A-ROD brought clients to the clinic (when we are yet to know at least one player that he did brought, and how they are going to treat those “clients” that A-ROD allegedly brought, because if that’s true they will be as guilty as A-ROD). Second of all, how can A-ROD accept the sanction he got when Ryan Braun lied in during the 2012 offseason when he said he “never took any substance”, but then Biogenesis appears with evidence, he gets sanctioned and also gets an additional 15-game sanction for his failed test in 2011. Yet there are no sanctions for lying (one of the reasons to justify a long sanction for A-ROD). Also, how can A-ROD accept the Yankees’ rehab when all the Yankees did was delay his return so they can get the suspension and avoid paying around $8+ million from this season? Despite their denials, we know the Yankees organization want no part of A-ROD (just like myself), but if you sign him for 10 years, you got to get him out the right way (via trade, release, or buying him out) because waiting for the league to help you somehow so you can get away from responsibilities, it’s not fair. It’s that simple. Third and foremost, how will the league be able to prove A-ROD’s sanction, when Bonds and Clemens beat the process, when players like Bartolo Colon, Melky Cabrera and Yosmani Grandal didn’t get any suspensions because they simply tested positive in 2012? How can you get a solid case on a player when you are diminishing your evidence yourself by letting off the hook some players that appeared on the same clinic records? How can you sustain a lengthy suspension to a player that (like it or not) has NEVER failed a test, and when he tested positive it was legal then? Why does the league that wants to “clean up” the sport, sits with players to negotiate a sanction, when all you have to do is simply sanction him because you caught him? And finally, how can you sustain a case when all but one player among the suspended are Latinos? It’s not how you get a case, its how you prove it in the court. And the league didn’t brought a solid case, but the same way the league lost this round, A-ROD attorneys better attack the weaknesses of the case, instead of defending the integrity of their client. There’s no doubt in my mind that this suspension will be reduced, the question is how many games will be reduced? I think it will be a 100- game sanction in the end, but the proper suspension should be in the 50-100 game mark. As round one ends, there’s no doubt that A-ROD beat the league, the Yankees and the media. Round 1 score: A-ROD 10-9
