Everyone who is gnashing their teeth, locked in the bathroom - TopicsExpress

Everyone who is gnashing their teeth, locked in the bathroom contemplating suicide, or otherwise certain that the electoral events of yesterday mark the end of civilization as we know it, get a freakin grip..... If you know anything about the way your political system works, you should know that the truth of this is that it changes nothing about the current established pattern of unproductive nit-wittery coming from inside the Beltway. We are still living with divided government - Congress still needs the Presidents autograph to turn legislation into law (remember the old Schoolhouse Rock cartoons people) and without 60 votes those dastardly, evil, stupid Republicans cant accomplish much that their equally undergifted Democratic colleagues in the Senate dont agree to. Republicans now have what they wished for, and what they may come to regret - a chance to lead and show people what they are about, regardless of what does or does not get signed by President Obama. I dont believe they have better than a 50-50 shot at avoiding a similar pasting in 2016 as that inflicted on the Dems in this go round - the fools and zealots on the far right will mistakenly believe that they have been given some sort of mandate. They will overplay their hand accordingly and be sent packing in 2016 either directly, or by virtue of having the Dems retain the White House. In my humble opinion, the only message that was sent by people last night was that they deplore the lack of leadership from both Congress and the President. Look at the approval ratings for Congress and the White House in exit polls from yesterday - none of them fared well. So if you are staring into the abyss and contemplating jumping because you think that the enlightened have been pushed aside and the Neanderthals are about to be in charge, step back, take a deep breath, and go brush up on the mechanics of how the government in your country works. We are in for two more years of nothing happening other than people posturing for runs at the Presidency - doesnt that make you feel better?
