Everything Jesus called a commandment he fulfilled, came back from the grave to reveal the final judgment. That is, death, ignorance and violence cannot separate us from love. When he quotes the OT saying be holy as I am holy, he was simply telling people the way God has always seen humanity. The law was written for him. He called what he does a NEW creation because children need things explained to them in terms they understand. I dont know about you, but I dont love everybody. Nobody likes to be told what to do, and nobody can love on command, that can only ever be a counterfeit love. I can just abide in the source of love, learn to know I am loved, that is what it means to receive the gospel - to put your trust in love, when everything seems hopeless. Love is the law that holds the universe together in the same way gravity is a law that explains why we can stand on a giant sphere spinning at 1000 miles per hour without flying off into space. You dont need to do or believe anything for it to do what it does. But with love, I think people need to know there is something holding them even when it seems all evidence is to the contrary. Perspective changes things.
