Eves night was comfortable and she seemed very relaxed each time I - TopicsExpress

Eves night was comfortable and she seemed very relaxed each time I checked on her. The additional pain relief has worked well, but it wont stop the wound from getting worse. There are a million things I can do to heal a pressure wound, but none of them will work if the pressure continues to be there. At this stage Im focusing on her comfort and slowing the progression of the wound but as we all know, she needs to get off it as soon as possible. Im not sure what the harness for the walker is like. Im sure its going to have her resting on the same point. I hope she can use her legs enough to lift herself off it, but even if she can she wont be able to for long periods so the problem will still exist. Once I can get a look at the walker I can start designing a harness that rests around the area but until I see how it all goes together I dont know where to start. I have a knot in my stomach. With any rescue, my goal is comfort and no suffering. I assess the risks, the likely outcome, the pain and trauma involved and the demeanour of the animal to decide whether its best for them to fight or to give them a peaceful end. With Eve, her demeanour has really been the driver. The risks were high and the discomfort is real. Ive been able to manage her pain and minimise discomfort, but her demeanour has never made me think I should let her go. Shes beginning to lose her spark now. Her appetite has slowed again, she isnt as attentive as she has been and she isnt bothering to try to fight her treatments. Normally when I lay her on her side to access the pressure sore she tries to right herself, but today she just lay her head on her pillow and watched me. She is starting to really suffer. I dont think she has given up, but shes closer to doing that than she was even with a RBC of 7%. Tonight Im moving her. The weather is bad but Im going to put her on the verandah where she will be close to the lambs and have a much bigger view. Im hoping it will reinvigorate her. Ive ramped up her antibiotics and will keep up her physio and massage. And Ill hope she holds on just a few more days. Just a few more days, Kissy-Lips. Stay with us. Dont give up.
