Evidence that the Lord is even purposeful with the names of people - TopicsExpress

Evidence that the Lord is even purposeful with the names of people in the Bible. He is truly deep in his ways... Genealogy from Adam to Noah (see Genesis 5): Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalelel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, Noah. Adam in Hebrew means man (אדם, or to be red like the ruddy color of human skin). Seth means appointed (שֵׁת. ...For God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him - Genesis 4:25) Enosh means human being in Hebrew, but its root anash means incurably sick or weak (see Strongs Hebrew biblehub/hebrew/605.htm) Kenans meaning seems unclear (possibly possession or sorrow) because names are transliterated to approximate their pronunciation so their translations can be hard to trace. Mahalelel has two parts: Mahalal meaning praise and El meaning God - or together becoming praise God. Jared (יֶרֶד or Yared) means descent. Enoch (חֲנוֹך or Chanokh) means dedicated. Methuselah is also two parts: muth means death (biblehub/hebrew/4192.htm) and Shalach means to send (biblehub/hebrew/7971.htm) - or death shall send. Methuselah was the longest living in the Bible (969 years, which is totally possible by the way with the understanding that the human genome is degrading in quality over time). Check this: Genesis 5 says Methuselah had Lamech at 187 years old. Lamech had Noah at 182 years old. Noah was 600 years old when the flood came (Genesis 7:11). 600 + 187 + 182 = 969 (the age that Methuselah died!) His name meant that his death shall send something - which in this case was the flood. Lamech means make low and is related to lament or lamentation. Noah was named with the meaning rest (biblehub/hebrew/5146.htm). Putting it altogether: MAN was APPOINTED SICKNESS or SICK SORROW but PRAISE GOD He DESCENDED and DEDICATED his DEATH TO SEND the LOW and LAMENTING people REST! I know it may seem like a bit of a stretch but I think the deeper we go into the Hebrew the clearer these meanings will be. I wonder what Moses was thinking when he wrote this Theres no way some Hebrew scribe would have manipulatively inserted this into the Torah (think about it - Jewish people purposely putting the gospel message of God coming to Earth in their sacred texts?) This is the cool design of God See the meaning of the names for yourself here (works for most of them and otherwise you look in other sources like Strongs Hebrew) behindthename/
