Evolution of Ford dealerships on the Dalton scene. First picture is of Lambert Ford, S. Thornton Ave. Taken shortly after its initial construction in the 1930s. It was owned and operated by Tom Lambert, Sr. R.A. Burnette and Ed Brooker purchased both business and bldg. in 1960. Burnette Ford operated at this location until 1972. Building still stands and is just south of the old Coca-Cola Bottling Plant. Second picture is of Ford dealership on West Walnut Ave. Burnette Ford opened for business next to the Dalton Shopping Center in 1972. After Mr. Burnette suffered a stroke in 1974, the business changed to Burnette-Brooker Ford until 1977, then becoming Brooker Ford. It remained in operation at this location until February 2007. Picture shown was taken around 1998-2000. Several retail stores and restaurants, anchored by T.J. Maxx, occupy this site today. Final picture is current Ford Dealership on Shugart Road. It opened for business in March 2007. A massive amount of fill dirt went in developing this lot from an old farm homestead on McClellan Branch, which runs into Mill Creek just across the 41 bypass. Major construction revamping Exit 336 off I-75 is currently underway.
