Ex NTUC Secretary General Lim Boon Heng, has called for the retirement age to be raised to 70. Usually, it is the job of labour unions to fight for better working conditions such as higher wages and shorter hours for workers. Clearly, this is not what happens in Singapore with Lim even saying that he has always pushed for an older retirement age. Like Lim Swee Say now, Boon Heng was also paid a high ministerial salary by the PAP despite not having a specific portfolio. Is this why our labour unions dont speak up for workers?
