The self resides in the moment but has the ability to remember past states and imagine possible future states YET exists ONLY IN THE MOMENT. When the community can no longer pump enough energy or gets wacked by an accident or dies of not being able to make new community members or the members of the community declare a type of civil war - the illusion of self disappears, poof, its gone. But the illusion of the self feels the state of the community and lives loves hates and moves around to enable the feeding of the community or forms groups of other communities similar and then generates politics and religions and all the thing we do to meet the demands of the 3 Fs so the community can continue. The problem is we confuse the self-illusion with the self-illusions of others and then take those illusions as the reality - which they are not - but the illusions of reality interact like another layer of organization......it is all fractal and self-catalytic - Autocatalysis - in the way the parts assemble into an ordered system.
