Excerpt from Prof. Akrons journal ~ 12 June 1885 We arrived in Han Dynasty of ancient China three weeks ago. I had claimed my prize. At last a copy of the first paper dictionary was to be added to our collection of artifacts. Of course it would not be that easy. As I activated the controls to open the time vortex, the central mechanism of the anachronism device overloaded. It can be discussed why this happened ad infinitum, however, I affirm that it was no carelessness or lack of maintenance on my part. Of course it was to be no simple repair. The core mechanism, an extraordinarily complex and accurate chronometer through which the energy of the entire device runs through and without which the machine has no point of reference, was built with no less than six redundancies and is specifically designed to endure for hundreds of years. This in mind, Professor Lovett designed the entire machine around this mechanism. It has a flawed design, to say the least. It took four days of dismantling the device to get to the core and an additional eight days to execute the repair. I imagine the off-duty crew and passengers who chose to disembark while we have been stranded have become quite bored with the environment. There is only so much the Commandant and I are allowing them to do so that we do not garner unwanted attention. Even with the restriction, our cautious efforts are not being rewarded and now we simply must depart. Now deep within the machine beats a new heart! My real concern was the remaining parts to the device, however, since we have had it apart twice now the time has come to activate it. Perhaps the contact electrodes will now be cleaned on a more regular basis. It seems we are using the device far more often than was originally intended.
