EXCERPT;; Ty snarled, hands curling into fists as he glared down at me, teeth bared ever so slightly. If ever there was a time to feel like my height was disadvantage, now would be it. Towering over me, Ty leaned forward until we were nose to nose. His green eyea positively sparked with anger and for the first time, it dawned on me that my life could be in danger. He was a City Furry, a Furry who had grown up surrounded by the corruption of the big city. I had heard stories about how unpredictable the City Furries could be... but it had never occured to me until now that I was now living among these supposedly hostile creatures. And looking up at Tyson, practically able to taste the anger radiating from him, I was suddenly afraid. Perhaps more afraid than Id ever been before. M-maybe I went a bit too far, I concede, hoping it would be enough to get Ty to back off. It wasnt. Instead, he stepped closer and I found myself trapped between him and the wall. A bit, Destiny? His voice is cool, calm, completely at odds with the look on his face. Thats what scares me most of all. It... it was a joke, I swear! I didnt mean anything by it. Thats our thing, right? You pull a prank on me, I retaliate. I give a nervous laugh and he smirks, pressing his hands onto the brick wall on either side of my head. Suddenly, I know what its like to be a caged animal. I feel trapped and helpless, unable to flee because Tyson is blocking my only exit. And hes too close. My heart is beginning to pound so loudly I fear hell be able to hear it. Tyson smiles and I swallow hard. That smile is like a punch to the gut, leaving me metaphorically gasping for air. He leans closer, his nose skimming the hollow of my throat. My skin starts to tingle and burn, and I feel lightheaded as if his proximity is sucking the air from my lungs. You smell nervous, Miss Meyers, he murmurs, and his voice has gone velvety soft. Do I scare you, Destiny? Im not afraid of anything! I lie, wincing as my voice shooys up an octave, no doubt giving me away. Ty pulls back, smirking down at me. He arches one eyebrow, something Ive yet ti master, and clicks his tongue in a chastising manner. Gone is the anger, replaced by the seductive boy Id met that first day of school. Its not nice to lie, Miss Meyers, he purrs softly. Its not nice to molest innocent girls, I shoot back, causing him to roar with laughter. As abruptly as Id found myself trapped, I found myself free once more. Ty smiled, backing away slowly. Youve got spunk, Miss Meyers. Will give you that. This is definitely going to be one interesting year. He called, before turning and jogging back out into the rain towards thr Soccrr fields. I watched him go, lifting one hand to my throat where his nose had grazed me. My body still felt too hot and tingly and I briefly considered going home early. But that would mean that Tyson had won this round and I wasnt going to allow that to happen. Turning, I headed back through the rain towards the Cafeteria and away from Ty and the confusing mix of emotions that always came with him. And, as I reached the heavy double doors and reached for the handle, I silently agreed with him. This was definitely going to be a helluva interesting year.
