The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning... which is in effect from noon Saturday to 8 PM PDT Tuesday for the Kern County mountains. * Temperature: heat indices at or above 105 degrees for several hours... primarily between the hours of 2 PM PDT and 8 PM PDT. * Locations include: Lake Isabella... Lebec... Kernville. * Impacts: children... the elderly... and people with chronic ailments are the most susceptible to heat-related illness. Heat exhaustion... cramps... or in extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions. Friends... relatives and neighbors should check on people who may be at risk. Pets and livestock are also susceptible to heat illness and should be cared for accordingly. Precautionary/preparedness actions... An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur... creating a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * Affected area... the Sequoia Forest portion of fire weather zone 295 Kern County mountains and fire weather zone 297 Tulare County mountains. * Timing... humidities lowering this evening and remaining low through Sunday. Some recoveries late Friday and Saturday nights... but humidity durations at or below 10 percent will be near 10 hours. * Relative humidity... 5-10 percent during the afternoon and evening hours with poor overnight recoveries. * Lightning... none. * Impacts... very low humidities combined with critically dry fuels will result in increased fire danger.
