Executive Dinner Invitation: H.E. Mehdi Jomaa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tunisia (April 2) Dear Neila On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia and the National U.S. - Arab Chamber of Commerce (NUSACC), we are very pleased to invite you to an Executive Dinner in honor of H.E. Mehdi Jomaa, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tunisia, on April 2, 2014. This is Mr. Jomaas first visit to the United States in his capacity as Prime Minister, and he is bringing with him the highest level delegation from Tunisia in memory, with six ministerial-level government officials and more than 20 business leaders. With its recent adoption of a new constitution and the inauguration of a new government, Tunisia is the biggest success story of the Arab Spring. The New Tunisia is positioning itself as a hub for business in Europe, Africa, and the Arab world, with such attributes as: Free trade agreements with Europe and Arab nations; an expanding infrastructure, with more than 100 industrial zones and over 1,400 flights weekly to Europe; an increasingly effective workforce, with more than 65,000 college graduates entering the market annually; an increase in Foreign Direct Investment, with more than 75 percent of the 3,300 joint ventures in Tunisia exporting their entire production every year. In the New Tunisia, business with the United States is picking up strongly. U.S. exports of merchandise to Tunisia jumped an impressive 38 percent in 2013, according to the U.S. Bureau of the Census, growing to $817.26 million. These numbers, while modest, indicate that Tunisia - U.S. commerce is clearly moving in the right direction. A February 3 editorial in The Wall Street Journal - a bellwether for the U.S. business community - offered congratulations to Tunisia for adopting a model constitution and marking a democratic milestone for the birthplace of the Arab Spring. The Journal went on to say, Tunisians have made their country a good Arab model, and Washington ought to do what it can to nurture and reward this example of democratic progress in the Middle East. Against this very positive backdrop, we are privileged to invite you to dinner with Tunisias new Prime Minister, H.E. Mehdi Jomaa, and this high-level delegation from Tunisia. Dinner will be served from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the Crystal Room at the Willard InterContinental Hotel. (Please see the attached invitation.) Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to having Association Mouwatana & Tawassol with us on Wednesday, April 2. Sincerely, H.E. MHamed Ezzine Chelaifa Ambassador to the United States Republic of Tunisia David Hamod President & CEO National U.S. - Arab Chamber of Commerce
