Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr. Eugene Juwah, has said the commission is establishing a multimedia Centre of excellence, through the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) in Lagos for the movie industry, because of the limited application of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) content in film production. He said IT professionals from Georgia Tech were at the DBI to deliver training in a master class session on film business and production techniques in furtherance of the partnership. According to him, the centre would give opportunity for the industry players to improve on human capacity, build skills, provide multimedia training materials, and attracts appreciable application of ICT in film production, adding that the centre would be fully equipped with editing suites and modern film production facilities for digital video, animation for entertainment and advertising, multimedia cartography, multimedia communications, and virtual reality among others. The EVC who was given an award for being Friend of Nollywood, spoke Friday night in Abuja, through the Director of Public and Communication Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo, at the Third edition of Friends of Nollywood Award, organised by the Association of Movie Producers, Abuja Chapter. He said NCC’s attraction to Nollywood became intense when it realised that it can leverage ICT opportunities to promote, protect, and project the industry to greater digital heights for the benefit of the practitioners, and the socio-economic progress of the country.
