Exodus 1-3 God is preparing events that will be spoken about for thousands of years. A new pharaoh rules Egypt, one that doesnt know about Joseph. He fears the numbers of Israelites, so he puts them in hard bondage. He not only enslaves all of Israel, but he also commands that all baby boys have to be thrown into the Nile River. There is one woman, who does everything she can to protect her new son from that fate. She hides him for 3 months, but instead of just tossing him in the river, she places him in a basket. The basket finds its way to one of Pharaohs daughters, who takes pity on the baby and saves him, adopting him as her own. She names him Moses. Moses grows to a man and through some unfortunate events, ends up in Midian, living as a shepherd. He is called by God to the mountain of God and a burning bush that doesnt consume. God calls from the bush and commands Moses to return to Egypt to free Israel from Pharaoh. He says, So I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with all the wonders that I will do in it; after that he will let you go. (3:20) God sets the stage for the most miraculous events in history until Jesus Christ!
