At the age of 13, Andre started associating with gang members. Andre later became Muslim, taking on the name Yusef, and it was his Islam that took him away from the destructive lifestyle of the gangs and to a more purposeful, honorable way of living. Yusef has now been working for many years to end gang violence through intervention programs and developing outreach classes. He is the creator and co-founder of the successful Timelist Group that has helped many people turn away from a detrimental lifestyle through its non-faith-based rehabilitation courses. He is also a part of the Youth Violence Intervention Coalition based in the Bay Area, a Human Relations Commissioner for the city of Union City, a member of the Community Advisory Board for Alameda County California and a High School teacher at Averroes High School in Fremont California.
