Experiencing A Friday Morning And Glad To Be Here Tropical depression Queenie seems already out of sight. The weather is fine where I am now, 14 kilometers deep into the interior of central Leyte. The town folks are in their daily grind. Its pleasant to bask, and even engage some banter with neighbors, under the gentle sun at 7:00 in the morning. I am warming to the thought of contentment. Do you only find it in the Websters or Merriam Dictionary? I feel like getting it in the simple appreciation and thanks for what life has to give, like the warmth and brilliance of another day with people you have known for the past forty or fifty years. Its the 28th of November, and Im suddenly reminded of heroes who have left us entitlements to the joys of living, like freedom, the experience of growing up in the warmth of loved ones, and a foothold to some place in the sun. Was it in song that this expression came: a hero lies in you? One need not rise up in arms, shout in the streets for rights and liberty, kill somebody, or die for countrymen to be so. You can be, just stretching your wit to the limit to raise children and keep their bodies and souls intact with less than $2 a day. You can be the father who could not sleep and take the luxury of rest with a child unable to go to school, because you could not pay her matriculation fee. Anyway, happy Friday.
