Exquisitely bred juveniles competing in The DNA Salver - By Bob Sawhny Posted on - 14 Sep 2013 Exquisitely bred juveniles competing in The DNA Salver By Bob Sawhny Pune: 14 impeccably bred 3-year-old maiden thoroughbreds will be competing in the 1400M DNA Salver which will be run here on Sunday, 15th September, 2013 (A race in recognition of the Media partnership between Daily News and Analysis and the R.W.I.T.C. Ltd.) This race will be the 7th race in a card of 9 events and it is scheduled to be run at 4.00 P.M. In my opinion, the winner should emanate from the quartet of the following horses Gallant Lad, Glorious Reward, Amaya or Pretty Hot who are described hereunder along with their Racing Record, Pedigree, worthwhile Track-Work if any, etc, along with My Final Analysis: Gallant Lad (Senure – Flying Glory) Trainer: S.S. Shah This good looking and well bred dark bay colt has run only twice in his career and finished a good 2nd to Quest For Love, in the ongoing Pune Season over a 1400M race for 3YO maidens on 24./8/2013. In the 9 horse race, he was in the rear bunch till the turn but ran on well to finish a good 2nd. To top it all, Gallant Lad did a good work-out on the IST on 10/9/2013 when he covered 800M in 49sec (-11), 600M in 37sec (-8), moving well throughout. Hence, Gallant Lad merits good consideration when he next runs a 1400M race for 3YO maidensas he is now fit as a fiddle. His ‘Sire’ Senure (Nureyev-Diese) won 7 races at 2 to 5 (1400 to 2200m) including United Nations Handicap (Gr.1), Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship (Gr.1), Fastness Stakes (Gr.3) and Steinlen Handicap L. Retired to Stud in 2003. His statistics till about the beginning of 2013 were-Sire from 6 crops of 180 named foals of 155 starters, 93 winners, about 11 black-type performers, 281 wins incl.: the brilliant sprinter Oasis Star (14 wins including D.B.A. Sprinters’ Cup, Gr.1-NTR, Nanoli Stud And Breeders’ Sprinters’ Cup, Gr1, etc), Gobelin (3 wins including Nanoli Stud Pune Derby, Gr.1), Riyasat (2 wins including HDIL Indian Oaks, Gr.1), Weizhou (7 wins including Dr. S. C. Jain Sprinters’ Championship, Gr.2), The Hurricane (5 wins including Club Solaris Turf Club Trophy, Gr.3) and other good black-type performers. His ‘Dam’ Flying Glory (Glory of Dancer – Flying Home) did nothing much to write home about but ‘His Dam’s Tail-Line’ is a strong one as it goes down to the likes of SARAN who had 13 wins and FARSTAR 3 wins career earnings of $ 37,615 which included Arlington Futurity 6 furlongs (USA). My Final Analysis: The well bred Gallant Lad who has had the advantage of running in the ongoing 2013 Pune Season and finishing a good 2nd to Quest For Love on 24th August, plus, his good work-outs that he has done on 10/9/2013should now see him run a highly commendable race, with the proficient jockey,P. Trevor astride. Glorious Reward (Mull of Kintyre - Glorious Breaker) Trainer: Imtiaz Sait He is a dark bay colt who is exquisitely bred and who should come out of his maiden status soon. So far, as his racing career record is concerned he, has come 2nd once and 3rd on two occasions. On 24/2/2013, he finished 3rd to the classy Dynamo and Silver Streak in Mumbai over 1200M in a 3YO maiden race. Then, he soon shifted to Bangalore and on 30/6/2013 he ran 2nd to Arrogant Approach over The 1400M Pendragon Plate again against 3YO maidens. In the race, he was 3rd till the 1000M, 2nd till the turn but was beaten near about the 100M by the winner Arrogant Approach. Here, it must be noted that Arrogant Approach is a good 3YO gelding who subsequently ran 3rd in The Bangalore Summer Million (GR.3), so, Glorious Reward lost to a very good juvenile. Finally, on 13/7/2013Glorious Reward finished 3rd again in Bangalore over 1400M to Racing Ahead and Beauty is Truth. Then, he came to Pune and had 2 good work-outs on the IST (1) On 5/9/2013 Glorious Reward along with his stable mate Morals smoothly and easily covered 1000M in 1:07s (-8), 600M in 39s (-6) (II) On 10/9/2013 Glorious Reward with stable mate St. Barts went very well over 1200M in 1:20s (-10), 600M in 39s (-6)and Former finished 3L ahead. Pondering over his exquisite pedigree, His ‘Sire’ Mull of Kintyre (Danzig-Retrospective) won 2 races at 2 (6 furlongs) in England and Ireland including Scottish Equitable Gimcrack Stakes (GR.2). His “Dam’ Glorious Breaker (Glory of Dancer- Making Waves ) won 2 races viz. Fillies’ Trial Stakes (Gr.1), A.P. Kothavala Memorial Cup; 2nd in Bangalore 1000 Guineas (Gr.2) & Godolphin Barb Stakes (Gr.3). Final Analysis: The well-bred Glorious Reward, who has summered well in Bangalore and pleased in his work-outs on 5/9/2013 and 10/9/2013, should now see him run a creditable race even though he will be competing against some very good 3YO maidens. Glorious Reward all in all, now definitely merits strong consideration in The DNA Salver with the efficient jockey Neeraj Rawal astride. Amaya (Arabian Gulf - Victory March) Trainer: Narendra Lagad She is a highly exquisitely bred filly who has had the advantage of having an easy run in the ongoing 2013 Pune Season on 10th August in which she finished an easy creditable 4th to the good 3YO trio of Cosmic Dancer, Seacaucus and Star of Babylon. Here, it must be noted, that the latter subsequently went on to win the 1600M September Handicap, a handicap race for 3 years old only, rated 20 to 46 in scintillating style. So, if Star of Babylon has stylishly won, now it should be the turn of the blue-blooded Amaya to win....should it not? Her ‘Sire’ Arabian Gulf (Sadler’s Wells – Wince) from the legendary Northern Dancer line, won 1 race at 3 and placed viz. 2nd in Chester Vase, Gr.3, etc. The lateSadler’s Wells died in 2011, sire of Arabian Gulf {GB}, was the Champion 3YO Miler in France in 1984, won 6 races at 2 and 3 (1400 to 2000m) incl. Irish 2000 Guineas, Gr.1, Coral Eclipse Stakes, Gr.1, Phoenix Champion Stakes, Gr.1, etc. Her Dam ‘Victory March’ bay mare 1997, was by Portroe out of Pleasant Melody and Victory March, was a top class mare in Western India who won 7 racesat 3 to 5 (1400m to 2000m) including Eclipse Stakes of India (Gr.2), Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia Trophy (Gr.3), etc; Stakes earned Rupees 14, 60, 877. My Final Analysis: The blue-blooded filly Amaya, who has had the advantage of running in the ongoing 2013 Pune Season on 10th August, is very fit and commands respect on her highly exquisite pedigree alone and in my opinion, with the talented jockey D. K. Ashish astride, she will be the one who all will have to try and beat in the 1400M DNA Salver. Pretty Hot (Mull of Kintyre - Breno) Trainer: Altaf Hussain This attractive looking daughter of Mull of Kintyre has run twice in her career and on both the occasions, she has finished 2nd. During the Mumbai Season on 28/4/2013, in a field of 15 - 3YO maidens, over 1200M, she has run 2nd to the favorite Protector of Paris who is a very good gelding but she has beaten Archimedes. Subsequently,Pretty Hot ran as the favorite in the ongoing 2013 Pune Season on 10th August and finished a good 2nd to Fontainbleau in The 1000M Deepak Raut Gold Trophy DIV II. In the latter race, Pretty Hot was 4th till the 600M, 3rd till the 400 and ran on to be a good 2nd – 1-1/2 lengths behind the winner Fontainbleau which revealed that Pretty Hot would not linger in the maiden ranks for long, when she runs over a trip between 1200 to 1400M. Browsing over her pedigree, Her ‘Sire’ Mull of Kintyre (Danzig – Retrospective) who is from the legendary Northern Dancer line, won 2 races at 2 (6 furlongs) in England and Ireland including Scottish Equitable Gimcrack Stakes (Gr.2) and placed 2nd in TNT International Aviation July Stakes (Gr.2). Mull of Kintyre who was relocated in India in 2008 is doing fairly well as a Sire on the Indian Turf. Her ‘Dam’ Breno is by Glory of Dancer (GB) out of Buona Sera, by Tijuana out of Hardihood, by Sandab (USA) out of Final Flower, by Flower Dust {AURELIE}Breno won 5 races at 3 & 4 (1400 to 2000m) and she won stakes of Rupees 5,16,046. My Final Analysis: Pretty Hot, who is fit as a fiddle, has had the advantage of a good run in the ongoing 2013 Pune Season on 10th August, over a 1000M race. Hence, Pretty Hot, with the able jockey T. S. Jodha astride needs some strong thought, as she might come up trumps and upset one and all, if she gets the 1400 Metres trip.
