Eye openers REMEMBER WE DO NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO RIGHT BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY WE ALSO NEED TO KNOW TO WHAT CAN GO WRONG. BEWARE OF AGENTS/ BRAND NAMES/ BIG NAMES Agents admit that they do the application free of cost. It is for the reason that they take commission from the university and they openly admit it. The student feels that they are being saved from the expenses and these agents are helping them. The reality is these consultants or agents are no philanthropists. They make you pay the university more and then take it from them. Some of the agents, who camouflage as consultants, sweettalk the students in the first meeting. The striking point is that a student would come to know the reality of these hidden agents only when the student would compare the list of colleges sent to every student by these consultants. The irony is that the university list is more or less the same for every student applying for a country then be it for any course. They present these universities as the best available option but the reality some of these universities are known as ‘reject universities’ where all the students who are rejected from the good universities go. Sadly students in India cant see the university first hand so students get fooled easily. Now the point is that do stop and ponder that when the career path, choice of courses, ability, GMAT/GRE/SAT/ACT scores, goals, profiles are different for every student then why would the consultant refer the same list of universities to every student. The reason being that such consultants are nothing but agents and the list of universities are the commission based tie – up universities. Check the website of such consultants and you would find the information related to SAT/GMAT/GRE/ACT exams as incorrect. Rest the students are smart enough. Stuff 25+- 70+ students in one batch (Training fees lower than the price of the exam, Ask yourself the question …where have you seen that the bride’s wedding dress is more expensive than the wedding expenses???)= Packed local train/cattle house training Attention to detail to personal doubts/queries- missing by big names = Do big names ever call up students and ask what is their progress and mentor? =Small doubts pilling up = Low score on GMAT- satisfaction with whatever score = Tie- Up colleges/never heard of colleges of agents sold to the students. These U.S /U.K/Australia based tie-up colleges (sold to Indian students by these agents) can’t appoint agents in their own country as because if any agent would lie about these universities and try to sell these universities to the students by hiding facts about their course or curriculum or future prospects and portray them to be bigger and better and more fruitful then what they are, then the native American or U.K students would sue these agents and universities once the student finds the reality about the course and the university and the future prospects. This is because laws are very strict there. So they have to scout for students in other countries and what better place than India. International students can’t sue. So either visit these colleges in person or cross check about them with others. The native students know the reality of these universities and also the fees quoted to native students of U.S or U.K are very less than the fees charged to commission based students of India. With the ever increasing strict student visa norms for U.K,U.S etc., (as these countries do sense that students, who come through agents, have an intention to migrate abroad sooner or later), do remember that if you go to a top notch or good university, the foreign consulate understands that you are highly skilled and genuine and you would add value to their country, thereby getting a visa becomes easier and your record becomes good. On the contrary if you go through agents to universities, which are just giving you a gateway to step into that country then the foreign consulate senses it, as the foreign consulate is fully aware of the status of every university and the malpractices carried out by agents. This will hurt your visa chances as a student now and in the future as well as your record with the foreign consulate may become bad. Remember with the past and recent developments, where there has been a freeze by particular countries on student visa to Indian students, is a startling indication for things to come in future. Its better to be aware and judicious well in advance as its your career rather than to be sorry later. These universities include the agents’ commission, which is around 10-30% of the tuition fees, as a hidden cost in the form of tuition fees by quoting the international students the fees accordingly. Universities which require GMAT/GRE/SAT/ACT and the ones which accept GMAT/GRE/SAT/ACT, there is huge difference between them. The university where a good GMAT/GRE/SAT/ACT score is mandatory augurs much better for your career and future. Compared to High GMAT/GRE/SAT/ACT score colleges, Colleges and Universities offered by agents accept any GMAT score- Sure shot admission- far less expensive – Guaranteed visa, internship, job. Think when top university can’t guarantee a job in current times of recession, how can any normal university give you the guarantee?
