Eye surgeons in Mali travel long distances on motorbikes in extreme heat visiting remote villages to try and eliminate one of the leading causes of preventable blindness. Globally an estimated eight million people suffer from the advanced stages of trachoma and require surgery to prevent them from going blind. Employed by Sightsavers ten surgeons work across ten different districts, each covering between 20km and 30km a day and conducting at least three operations each day. The ten minute medical procedure prevents blindness and ensures that people can continue to work and provide for their families. ow.ly/CdXDi
