Eynesbury Rovers, playing their first FA Cup match since the year 2000, were eliminated at UCL Premier Division title favourites Spalding United. Eynesbury shocked Spalding by taking a seventh minute lead. Lea Jordan threw the ball out to Jack Weeden on the left flank and he progressed to the byline and beat his marker before crossing the ball for Lee Bassett to head home. However, two minutes later Spalding were awarded a soft penalty which was duly converted by Lee Beeson for the equaliser. Tom Coles headed wide for Rovers but at the other end a low Beeson cross into the box was swept against the post by Tony Battersby whilst another similar ball was diverted wide by Andy Tidswell. Lee Bassett fired a shot across the face of goal before Nick Finney saw his header blocked by a defender. But in the 31st minute Andy Tidswell squeezed the ball home from close range to give The Tulips the lead. From a corner kick Beeson’s shot was parried by Jordan and Tony Battersby’s shot on the rebound deflected wide. Eynesbury came close to equalising just before the break as Lee Bassett’s free kick skimmed the top of the crossbar. Rovers’ best spell came at the start of the second half but they could not find a goal. Nick Finney set up Weeden but his shot was easily held by Michael Duggan whilst Tom Coles attempted long range chip drifted just wide of the upright. Ross West fed Weeden from the halfway line but he shot over the top whilst Darren Woodend just failed to get a clean contact on Finney’s downward header. Tom Coles shot wide with a long range effort before a rare Spalding chance saw them make it 3-1 in the 73rd minute. Jamie Thurlbourne’s cross from the left was headed in at the back post by Beeson. Seven minutes later Beeson set up Andy Tidswell who fired the ball past Jordan to make it 4-1. However, in the 85th minute, Owen Dixon, making his debut, won possession and fed Ben Cole who set up Ben Colmer to score with a low strike from 18 yards. The last action of the tie saw Duggan making a save from a Ross West shot from 18 yards.
