Ezra Klein thinks that monarchy is awesome and in fact the U.S. should have one. I say: Ok, provided the Royal Family consists entirely of cats. The same royal attitude, the same morals, the same level of intelligence, all the entertainment value and symbolism but lower cost. You could even pick the Royals from some expensive unhealthy purebred variety, inbreed them further, and then occasionally let an alley cat into the Royal compound.
