FAITH BOOK Common themes and similarities, as well as my viewpoint on the application of the Word Leviticus 1-10 MODERN DAY UPDATE/CONTRADICTION Lev 6:2, 5 “… Or suppose they [people] have been dishonest with regard to a security deposit, or they have taken something by theft or extortion… they must restore the principal amount plus a penalty of 20%....” (A lot of good record keeping without computers. Why truth/trust are so important?) VIEWPOINT Big calm down from action in first 2 books. Reminds me of kids playing ‘House’ and making up the rules as they go along. Had to know difference between “… whole burnt offering, grain offering, sin offering, guilt offering, ordination offering, and peace offering.” (Lev 7:37) In Lev 10:1-2 two of Aaron’s sons burn the ‘wrong’ kind of fire, so the fire burns them up. Then (NEW RULE) Aaron was not allowed to mourn, but everyone else could. (Lev 10:6) Then (NEW RULE) Moses got angry at Aaron’s remaining sons (“Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the sanctuary area?” Lev 10:17). Then (NEW RULE) Aaron answered on behalf of his sons (“This kind of thing has also happened to me.” Lev 10:19) (NEW RULE) Lev 10:20 “When Moses heard this, he approved.” Also reminds me of my belief that it takes 3 years (cycles?) to turn a situation around. As a new manager… during your first year, staff members are not totally loyal because many are wondering why ‘you’ got the job and if you’re part of the ‘clean out’ plan for the company, and may be trying to fire them with all these new rules you’re putting into place. During your second year, they see that you’re more qualified than they figured, they haven’t been fired, and some of what you’re saying makes sense and will actually help them ‘keep’ their jobs. So they open up a little and may go as far as liking you. During your third year, they see that you’ve got some fresh new ideas that work in their favor, so they start to trust you and commit to helping you make it happen. Your rules may still seem a little stringent, but your track record says ‘hang in there, this is gonna work….’ I’ve experienced this several times while at The Wall Street Journal; during my entrepreneurial setup of my speaking business (not with staff, but with potential clients); and now as I celebrate my third year in Charlotte. I am settling in and starting to “live” here… trusting ‘myself’ that I can commit to making it happen…. ~ Sporty King
