FAITH OVERCOMES THE WORLD (1 John 5:4) Yesterday, we made reference to the authority of Jesus over the forces of evil which was symbolized by his walking on the sea (Mark 6:50). In Matt 28:18, he declared the acquisition of such authority, All authority in heaven and on earth has given to me. And in Luke 4:18, he tell us the source of that authority, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me. He has anointed me...💥 With such authority, we can join Jesus to be victorious over the forces of evil and reveal more the face of God on earth.💪 Luckily, that authority did not end with Jesus. He promised his disciples that when he goes, the Holy Spirit will come upon them (John 14:15-25) and through that, they will receive power (Acts 1:8). Look at the requirement for the reception of that Spirit, to love God and keep his commandment (John 14:15).❤ St John picks up the same theme again in 1 John 4:19 - 5:4, showing us the association between loving God and keeping his commandment, and how that manifests in faith. Faith enables us to be called children of God (John 1:12).💧 Hence, faith prepares us to receive that power which Jesus has. Jesus used that power to bring hope and succour to those who were facing different challenges in life (Luke 4:18-19). We can only show too that we have that power by showing love to our brothers in need (1John 4:19-21) since faith without good works is dead (James 2:17).🌿 May the Lord increase our faith and make our faith productive and effective in overcoming the forces that threaten us in the world.
