FAMILY > UPDATE ON SHAY: Well, its been a week now that Shay has been in Brazil. So, I thought I would update family on what I can. Were trying to allow her to settle in... and essentially the first month should be mostly radio silence to allow her to really adjust (I hope all of you will respect that as well). Attached are some pictures of Shay Atwoods world that I was able to dig up online. I have a couple I am posting here that she put up on instagram as well, but very few from her right now. The first pic is of her new boy friend. Let me say... I am 100% okay with this new bo of hers. ;) She has a turtle, a whole bunch of birds, and a dog. The second is of #hogwarts, the school she is attending. Its the BIG building in the far back of the picture. The third is her 1ST day of School selfie. The fourth picture is of the Church building where she will be going to. The Fifth is the street view of where she is staying, The Last two show a couple views Shay sees... EVERY DAY on the way to school... poor her... right? We are so proud of Shay and shes finding her way... the biggest hurdle is the language barrier is really tough. Her host parents speak virtually no English and so its been fun for her host parents and her to figure things out. Thats to be expected and I expect that it will be a few months before things start to really make sense. She is going to school now... Monday - Saturday, 1pm to 7pm (not joking). She is attending a Private Catholic school. Her focus right now should be IN Brazil... not here at home. Please do what you can to quietly support her in your prayers, and not so much txting and msging... please (especially her friends here in the USA... you know who you are... ;) ). After the first month, Ill post her address so you all can send her a Physical letter. :) Yes she has internet, yes her email works, yes she is not 100% isolated. But, its important that her focus be on learning Portuguese, building relationships with her host family, getting involved in church activities, engaging in service, participating in local Rotary activities, and meeting new friends (which I hear is happening). All in all... even after a few bumps, a steep language barrier, a new culture, tons of misquotes, and a few technical difficulties... she survived the first week, and shes in good spirits.
