FAQ about Crimea from Maxim Shevchenko: youtube/watch?v=ZGp-FMm8bns Abstract of Shevchenkos message: 1. Strategic view. None of Crimea, Russia or Ukraine would benefit from disintegration of Ukraine and separation of Crimea due to the obvious consequences in the international context. Therefore it is not going to happen. However, different regions of Ukraine have different interests due to historical, cultural and economic reasons. The rational way could be a reorganization of Ukrainian state, so that the regions have wider authority in their local policy while staying a part of Ukraine. [Such states with federal constitution are common around the world, e.g. USA or Russia.] 2. The situation in Crimea. Conducting of referendum about the new regional policy and elaboration of the new internal regional affairs is the current activity of the Crimeas government. The police and military forces of Ukraine were demoralized by revolutionary actions in Kiev and dismissal of the legal president. Crimeas government wants to keep the region in peace and calm, to avoid any riots and gun shooting like it happened in the other regions of Ukraine. Crimeas leaders called for help of Russian peace keeping mission during sorting out the political disorder in the country. Currently Russian military are joining the permanent Ukrainian military bases in order to guard the armoury, avoid rash actions of Kievs revolutionary governments and capturing of the armoury by extremists. Due to the absence of agreement with Kievs revolutionary government, this process is rather vulnerable and based on trustful in situ agreements between the military of Russia and Ukraine. So far it is going calmly and without any violence in general. [From myself. Please do not start to debate with me on this topic. That is only the opinion of one famous Russian journalist which to my mind deserves to be heard. For those who are not familiar with the regional background. Any parallel between the current situation in Crimea and the actions of NATO forces in Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya would be false. Russian navy fleet is located in Crimea since 18th century by legal foundations. According to the census in 2001, there are 58% people in Crimea that identify themselves as Russians. There is absolutely no surprise that the civil society of Crimea is more trustful towards the presence of Russian military versus the above-mentioned missions of NATO which did not really help those countries. Especially while observing the current unstable situation in other parts of Ukraine, including its capital. There is no other country like Russia that would be so interested in prosperous, stable and friendly Ukraine.]
