FB asks Whats on your mind Well today, its my ancestors. Both my grandfathers saw active service in France/Belgium in the Great War and were decorated for their bravery. One was in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He was badly injured by shrapnel and had to be repatriated. To the day he died in December 1962 the shrapnel continued to emerge through his skin. My other grandfather, although a conscientious objector, was a stretcher bearer in the Royal Army Medical Corps and was awarded these medals. Two are for acts of gallantry and devotion to duty under fire Conferment of the medal was announced in the London Gazette and W Mancey earned the right to add the letters M.M. to his name. He was also awarded the Croix de Guerre by the French. Both my parents were in the RAF in the second world war. My father was on a signals co-ordination ship just off the coast of Normandy on D-Day. My mother was billeted in Kensington in 1944 and survived being bombed by a doodlebug. I am very proud of them, and very grateful. x
