FEDERAL LEGISLATURE [GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ACT, 1935 COMPOSITION : The Act provided Bicameral Legislature consisted of The King and Two Chambers The King was represented by Governor General. The two houses of Bicameral Legislature were 1. Council of State (The upper house) And the House of Assembly (The Lower House). The Upper House “Council of Stated” comprised of 156 representatives of British India & 104 members from Indian states. The Lower house “ House of Assembly” consisted of 250 representatives of British India, 125 members from Indian States. DURATION:- COUNSIL OF STATE: The Council of State was permanent body “not subject to dissolution” 1/3 of its members were to retire every third year. HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY: The life of House of Assembly was 05 years. Both of the houses of Bicameral Legislatures had to elect amongst their members : President of the Council of State Speaker of the House of Assembly
