THIS JUST HAPPENED TO US TODAY! Seth got a call at The Melting Pot this afternoon. The caller ID said it was The Illuminating Company...the SAME number that shows up the the electric bill. The person knew our account number and exact amount of the current bill and said they are sending out a truck to turn off the power in 60 minutes if the bill was not paid immediately via one of the prepaid cards mentioned in this article. Knowing the bill was paid Seth was suspicious so he put them on hold and called the Illuminating Co. on the other line and told them about the call and they told him about this scam. He went back to the original call and said he had someone from the Illuminating company on the phone and was going to conference the call in...and (shockingly) the guy hung up. So just a heads up to everyone about this and the multitude of other scam artists that are out there. These people are good...thats why they are called scam ARTISTS. They know how to prey on people and they have no conscience. Just because someone sounds convincing it doesnt mean they are legit. Follow your instincts...dont give out information and dont give anyone your bank or credit card information. Unless youve called the company directly assume its a scam. Its very sad that we have to operate this way but you need to protect yourself!!
