FERGUSON: Police fired tear gas to disperse protesters in Ferguson late on Monday, August 18, on the ninth day of protests in the Missouri town since the shooting of teenager Michael Brown by a police officer. Police advanced on protesters following reports of gunshots and bottles being thrown at officers. One person was being treated for gunshot wounds sustained during the protest, according to St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon approved the use of the Missouri National Guard early on August 18 after two nights of a midnight curfew failed to curb outbreaks of disorder and looting after the nightly protests.
