FGMR FRIDAY ANSWER! FGMR FRIDAY ANSWER! The question with the most votes was from Ken-Thomas Kvael: Sir. I would like to ask the first grand master if he could describe the correct performance of the releasing action in the pattern Hwa-Rang (movement 11 I think) in regards to foot work, body facing and the speed of the feet, the hand and the body (specially the hips). I apologize if this has been the topic of earlier posts. Thank you. FGMRs response is as follows: The releasing action in Hwa Rang tul (movement 12) follows on from movement 11 which is your preparation for the release. Therefore the foot positioning in movement 12 will start a as it was in position 11. The only difference is that the body weight is transferred from being predominately on the front foot in movement 11 to the back foot in movement 12 as you release. This sequence of movements is most effective when practiced with an opponent in a realistic environment. The reaction force of the side kick and the arm pulling in the opposite direction at full power and speed is very explosive. However the key is to do everything simultaneously to be lost effective. As we are in such close proximity to our opponent at this point, I would recommend performing this sequence quickly in a real life self defence situation. This is one of the particular teaching points I cover in This Is Taekwon-do and it is clearer to see and understand visually in either the 3D patterns or video teaching point. The video is just a quick screengrab from the 3D app that comes in the DVD-ROM which is attached to the book - This is Taekwon-Do. As you can see youll have the amazing ability to look at a movement from all angles, zoom in and out, repeat the movement, slow down and speed up etc... On top of this youll have access to over 3 hours of HD video teaching points one of which covers this movement in depth.
