FIFA is considering taking away the 2022 World Cup from Qatar due - TopicsExpress

FIFA is considering taking away the 2022 World Cup from Qatar due to complaints of corruption and hot summers, but meanwhile the conservative estimate (provided by Qatar itself) is that 1,200 foreign workers have died while working in Qatar on their stadiums and World Cup projects The workers come from other countries, especially Nepal, lured to Qatar with seemingly generous contracts only to have their passports taken by their employers so that they might be forced to remain in Qatar. They are lied to, held in servitude, beaten, underfed and poorly sheltered; many have died. It is a form of slavery and in violation of basic human rights. If nothing changes it is estimated thousands more will die in the coming years. That this abuse has been condoned by FIFA so far is criminal in its own right. I love football passionately, but it is just a game. 1,200 people should not have to die for what is nothing more than the entertainment of others. FIFA needs to do their part to put a stop to this, as much as they can. That they have ignored it this far is an incredible act of negligence and racism. There is so much more to this issue than I can cover in a Facebook post. The Qatar government has also held, is holding, British investigators for trumped up charges. Additionally, investigators in Qatar from the Norwegian NGO Global Network for Rights and Development have apparently vanished altogether. The worst part about this? Weve known about this for over a year and still nothing has been done.
