FIGHT DEDICATION: I would like to dedicate todays fight and my subsequent surprise victory to the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), an organization for Americans over 50 like 52 year-old 1961 baby boomer Gazela.:) Todays victory was especially cool, because a) I survived a younger mans sustained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu attack:) and b) if this is what Gazela can do training once a week on Saturdays only, what am I capable of doing if what we call causes and conditions in Buddhism made it possible for me to at least regularly train three times a week? Who knows, maybe even strong cheetahs, young and old, would fear the gazelle.:) Although today was officially my very first day competing as a CHECKMAT team member, I am forever grateful to all my teachers and to all (and I sincerely mean ALL) my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sparring partners at my former academy, MAOLI MMA in Hayward, California, U.S.A. and my current academy and team CHECKMAT.:) Thank you all for kindly and gently taking the time to teach a Gazelle how to be fearless in self defense.:) After all, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is often referred to as The Gentle Art.:) Incidentally, I also often refer to it in the Portuguese language as O Jogo Bonito (The Beautiful Game). SPECIAL THANKS :) to my coach, my teacher, meu amigo, meu irmao, STEPHAN GOYNE :) for instructing me, encouraging me and inspiring me to be the best Gazela that I can possible be.:) THANKS STEPHAN!:) Many thanks too to two of my CHECKMAT team mates, MINEIRO of Brazil for calling out the ringside/matside fight commands to me em nosso portugues brasileiro (in our Brazilian Portuguese), and JUI of Taiwan for taking care of my things, filming my fight, filming my gold medal ceremony and gen wo shuo women Putonghua (speaking to me in our Mandarin Chinese).:) Muito obrigado!:) Wo feichang ganxie nimen!:) (Thank you very much!:)) Next stop?
