FIJI football star Roy Krishna is now valued at more than a million dollar by a German-based football website. According to transfermarkt.co.uk, Krishna, who plays professional football for the A-league club Wellington Phoenix, is worth 352,000 pounds (F$1.085m) as of December last year. The 26-year-old Labasa player made the limelight after securing contract with the New Zealand-based Waitakere United club in 2008. He started with a market value of $200,000 and within two years he managed to hit the $1m mark. Krishnas parents Bal and Sarita Krishna were overwhelmed with their sons achievement. Dad Bal said he was proud to see Roys gradual rise in football. The 56-year-old retiree said they were in regular contact with Roy. His earnings are wholly his business but we often call him from time to time when we need money and he always obliges, Bal said. I am proud that at this stage and in an age group where he should be out there embracing the world, my son has not forgotten his humble beginnings and his family. Emotional mother Sarita dedicated her sons achievements to the Almighty. She said Roy is a down-to-earth person who always likes to be in his signature flip flop with a round neck T-shirt and a shorts. None of these achievements would ever have been possible without God and we are proud of our sons achievements, she added. Fiji Football coaching director Juan Carlos Buzzetti, who scouted Krishna in 2006, said the country should be proud of his achievements. Its a great achievement. This is all through the sacrifice, hard work and commitment that he has put over the years, the Uruguayan mentor said. Im very proud of him. He is not only a great footballer but a great person as well. He is always available for us whenever we need him. He is the first person to confirm his availability for the national duties. He deserves this achievement. Roy, who normally plays striker, played for Waitakere United from 2008 to 2013 scoring 55 goals in 75 appearances before joining Auckland City. He was the first Fijian to score in the FIFA Club World Cup for Auckland City. The former All Saints Secondary School student joined Wellington Phoenix in January this year as an injury replacement before sealing a two-year deal with the club.
