FINALLY: Broken Arrow, Okla. (June 12, 2013) – City of Broken Arrow crews have repaired the 36-inch main water line from Pryor and water is being distributed through the system. City crews have begun testing the water supply citywide and should have the process completed by the end of the day. “Crews will be testing 40 sites throughout the distribution system to ensure the entire City is safe,” said Director of Communications Stephanie Higgins. “We anticipate this will be completed by late this afternoon.” Test results will not be available until late Thursday afternoon. As a precaution, the City’s water plant operators added a significant amount of chlorine to the water before distributing it into the water system. The precautionary boil advisory is still in effect until further notice. Once the results of the tests are received and there are no negative impacts on the system, the advisory will be lifted. It is advised that the consumers of the Broken Arrow water system bring the water to full, rolling boil for at least one minute before consumption, food preparation, dish washing, tooth brushing, wound care and bathing infants who may ingest bath water. “It is regrettable that our water supply levels reached a point that we felt it was necessary to issue the voluntary, precautionary boil advisory,” said City Manager Thom Moton. “However, the public safety of our water customers is of the utmost importance. Public health is our No. 1 priority.” City Pools and splash pads will remain closed until the advisory is lifted. Restaurants City staff has been working in tandem with the Tulsa County Health Department Food Protection Division.
