*** FINGER LAKES FLOODING *** FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE - I wish I had good news this morning, but instead I think I have the worst possible news. The rain has been even slower to move east than was expected, leaving the core of heavy rain further west than I thought yesterday morning. Penn Yan is now right in the middle of where some of the heaviest rain should fall. - Penn Yan and surrounding areas are already under a FLASH FLOOD WARNING with flooding being reported. It will only get much worse before it gets better in these areas. Do NOT drive through a flooded road! Additional flood warnings exist all throughout the western Finger Lakes, where flooding may occur at any time now. - It is looking like the eastern Finger Lakes, which has been on the edge of the rain so far, will have a relatively shorter event. As the rain does start to move east, it should shrink in size some. By mid afternoon, the rain should mostly be east of the region. This quicker transition should mean less total rain. - A second area of heavy rain should develop to the east later on today, with amounts over 2 possible in the general areas of Oneonta and Utica. There will probably be localized flooding in these eastern areas as well.
