Anyone can succeed, if only he will care to know what it takes and he gives himself to all it demands for success. Deut. 28:1. However, if you must succeed in life, you must know the demands God has put in place to make you successful. This is because, even though a man must make effort, ultimately, God is the only one that builds all things. Ps. 12:1-2, 1 Cor.3:6. The key foundation for achieving success in life is salvation. However, there are other requirements to achieve success. One key demand for success that we will focus on today is discipline. How disciplined a believer is will determine the extent of success he/she will achieve. SOME DEFINITIONS OF DISCIPLINE. 1. Discipline is operating under self-imposed laws in a bid to accomplish a desired goal. Gen.39:9. - If you dont operate by rules that govern how you live your life, imposed and enforced by yourself, you are not disciplined. At the root of the failures and struggles of many in the church today is a life of indiscipline. 2. Discipline is operating as commanded, not as convenient. 1 Cor. 9:24-27. 3. Discipline is doing only the expedient and not the lawful. 1 Cor.10:23. WHAT DISCIPLINE DOES. 1. It gives you a sense of mission in the pursuit of a task. 1 Cor.9:16. 2. It sets order in your life. 1 Chr. 20:1, 1 Cor.14:30-33. An ordered life makes you to set your priorities right,and to give yourself fully to your priorities. 3. It enables you to maximize time. How you make use of your time determines whether you will end up a success or failure in life. Discipline enables you to use time well. FIVE (5) MAJOR AREAS OF DISCIPLINE FOR EVERY BELIEVER. 1. Sleep. 2. Morals. 3. Finance. 4. Emotion. 5. Time. HOW TO BECOME DISCIPLINED. 1. Place great value on discipline. - See your need for a disciplined lifestyle. What you dont need, God will not give you. 2. Make the choice for it and be determined to be disciplined. Dan. 1:8. Your decision is powerful, because God respects it and the devil cannot stop it. 3. Put rules in place to guide your daily activities. Job 31:1. 4. Dont break your rules. 2 Tim.3:3-9. 5. Depend on the Holy Spirit. Without God, you can do nothing. After setting rules to guide your life, seek for the help of God for you not to break the rules. The reason behind the undoing of many in the church today is lack of discipline. When you live a disciplined life, that is in line with Gods plan and purpose for your life, success is guaranteed.
