FIRE UPDATE 7/16/14 @ 12 NOON; The fires around the region are seeing more firefighters on the lines and could experience significant growth over the next couple of days. There are 9 major fires being fought from Maupin to Klamath Falls out to the east of Burns. The Shaniko Butte Fire was last mapped at over 12 thousand acres. There are now 280 firefighters working the blaze. The 43 hundred acre Waterman Fire Complex to the east of Prineville closed Highway 26 from the Ochoco Summit to Mitchell. Crews are taking down trees that were at risk of falling on the highway. Several campgrounds in the area were closed. The Bridge 99 fire north of Camp Sherman is 1050 acres. There will be a meeting this evening at 6pm at the Camp Sherman Community Center for those wanting more information on the fire. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning going into Friday evening for a wind event and higher temperatures.
