FIRIS is becoming increasingly concerned with the practices of some chaplains in schools. The more we dig, the more alarming it becomes. It is literally impossible for the parents of children at these schools to ensure that they have no contact with these religious groups. These groups are predatory and are in the schools in order to recruit for their Youth Ministry. They have become interwoven into the culture of these schools. The power of the enticements being offered in the form of snacks, entertainment and assistance should not be underestimated. We are keeping a close eye on two schools in particular: Macleod P-12 College Kew High School The sheer multitude of activities being offered by evangelical religious groups in these schools is extraordinary. The groups being given regular access to these schools via the chaplains are - MUSTARD PLANETSHAKERS BRIDGE CHURCH YOUTH ALIVE CITY LIFE CHURCH OPEN HOUSE SALVATION ARMY The number of programs that students are encouraged to attend (in and out of school) through OPEN HOUSE is alarming. Ann-Marie Fife, the chaplain of Macleod College, is on the board of directors. Chaplains claim that they do not proselytize. But FIRIS has built a strong case which clearly demonstrates that chaplains are more than happy to open the schools to groups who do proselytize. However, another problem is the fact that the chaplains are delivered into schools via parachurch organisations, such as ACCESS Ministries. These groups seek to use our schools as mission fields and do it with the assistance of the chaplains. This was clearly communicated in Paddisons speech back in 2008.
