FIRST----What’s at the top of the list today? What is on the sticky note at eye level on the exit-this-way door? What is written on your hand/arm so that remembering THAT thing will not escape you today? What is the must-get-it-done-today thing? The highest priority? Well, for His children, Papa-God has made it simple: our thoughts and actions and emotions should align with seeking first His kingdom (Matthew 6:33). Why would anything else top the list? As His, we do notice the things in our world that just shouldn’t be. But we don’t place our trust and alliance in government, economics, other people, busy activities, entertainment, or even religious systems to provide change. We seek Him. And we know that we can do nothing, (yup, nothing) without Him. He is indeed everything we need. These other things (yes, even shocking government decisions or economic downturns or lack of popular support) cannot hold sway over the reactions of our minds and hearts. When these arenas go in a different direction than we want/need, we just stand secure because they were never our call-this-first-when-trouble-shows-up place or source of hope and therefore can’t devastate our hearts when going contrary to our desires. Nope, our Papa is our go-to-guy. So we go to this Someone Else Higher, our true hope and never-disappointing resource. We already have access to the only One who can change—and WANTS to change–everything that needs changing around us. And He says that getting Him activated and involved in changing these things is not contingent upon the number of people we amass around us to do things His way or whether THEY change/ask. Nope. He simply says that if HIS people—just us, His God-defined people—call upon Him, look to Him, humble ourselves, seek His presence (His showing up)—well, then, He’ll be there (2 Chronicles 7:4). We come as we are to Him; being His child, His new creation is enough. And He will hear and forgive and restore—not just us but all those around us where we live. When WE seek Him first, we change the world we live in, and we unveil Him for others to see, too. Life can get amazingly busy, complicated, and loud. In such surroundings we can become confused and disoriented. We forget what we are supposed to be doing. But He made life simple for us. Seek His righteousness and His kingdom—first–and change the world. Do we see need for change around us? Today, do we see areas that need the overcoming goodness of God to give evil no place to hide? Well, changing the world is about bravely seeking Him—courageously believing that He really does love the world—love me, love you—and that He loves partnering with us to bring His goodness upon this world to overcome all the evil around here. He is ready and waiting–waiting for US to seek Him. Today, let’s keep the sticky note nearby and actively, bravely first seek Him and His kingdom and change the world. Let’s put Him first today, seek what is on His heart, and contagiously infect others to do the same. Matthew 6:33 The Message–Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions.
