FIRST WAVE OF POLAR AIR MOVING ON OUT – HOWEVER A MORE SUSTAINED PERIOD OF SNOWY WEATHER WILL EDGE CLOSER DURING THE EVENING: Snow flurries have fallen to sea level in Christchurch and currently parts of North Canterbury have snow falling to 100-200m above sea level. Conditions will quickly clear this morning, and the day overall should be mainly settled with sunny skies and light winds. However late afternoon winds turn more southerly and with that we expect sleety showers to develop with snow lowering to 100m. Remember this is largely a coastal event (Christchurch north). For the full forecast on your area please check out the detailed daily report issued 1 hr ago It is possible Christchurch could see 3-5cm fall to sea level overnight. So wrap up warm and brace for a wintry evening. -Russ
