FISH OIL IMPROVES PLACENTA FUNCTION - A new Australian study has shown that fish oil reduces the risk of miscarriage, gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia by helping to reduce inflammation in the placenta (1). The study shows that the placenta is able to convert fish oils into resolvins and protectins, which are anti-inflammatory compounds made from EPA and DHA. Fish oil has also been shown to be important for the development of the baby’s brain and vision and so is commonly recommended for use in pregnancy, alongside other important nutrients such as folic acid, magnesium, vitamin D, zinc, iron and beneficial bacteria to support bowel flora.
