FLOODING: BUSINESS SUPPORT SCHEME The government has granted £290,000 to support small and medium sized businesses in Maidstone borough that were affected, directly or indirectly, by the flooding since Christmas. Grant funding can be used to claim for costs including (but not limited to) non-recoverable insurance excesses for repair/replacement of equipment, stock or building structures; temporary business accommodation; structural surveys; and loss of trade. Insured losses (or items that insurance should normally cover) and recoverable VAT are not covered by this grant. Full guidance on the Business Support Scheme and application forms are expected to be available this week. In order to ensure that businesses receive support as quickly as possible, applications must be submitted by 11 April 2014, with funding awarded by the end of April.
