FLORIDA NEWS: Man Charged with Escape After Walking Away from Work Detail WALTON COUNTY,FL A man serving a sentence for violation of probation now is charged with escape. According to the Walton County Sheriffs Office, Christopher Merriman was a jail trustee working at the Walton County landfill when he went missing. Deputies spotted Merriman walking on CR83. He has been charged with escape and giving false information. === At approximately 2:50 PM Walton County deputies were notified that jail trustee Christopher John Merriman (05/25/1973) who was assigned to a work detail at the Walton County landfill was missing. Approximately 7 minutes later deputies made contact with Merriman walking on HWY 83 near Cat Island Road and was taken into custody without incident. Merriman was serving a VOP sentence at the time of his escape. Merriman was taken to the Walton County Jail and charged with escape and giving false information.
