FLOYD SHIVAMBU STATEMENT ON THE ALLEGATIONS OF PULE MABE AND THE SUNDAY WORLD. On Sunday, the 17th of November 2013, the Sunday World wrote a front page story which amongst other things says that “Senior ANC leader Pule Mabe shared the loot he allegedly stole from the poor with Floyd Shivambu... Sunday World has established that established that of the R2 million allegedly fleeced from SASSA, R30 000 was given to Shivambu”. The report by the Sunday World is not true, and reflects unethical and wrong media practice. This is so because the Journalist who wrote the story, Mzwandile kaBizokwakhe claimed that the source of this allegation is the Police case and the State charge sheet which Pule Mabe must respond to. When confronted with the information that such does not exist, he went ahead and wrote a misleading story, with the hope of casting aspersions and informing the readers of his newspaper that I might have been recipient of ‘stolen’ money. Because I am an Economic Freedom Fighter who believes in accountability, openness, and corrupt-free society, which is one of the 7 cardinal pillars of the EFF, I have to present the facts as they are: 1) I have seen and read the contents of the Police case and the State charge sheet against Pule Mabe, and would like to encourage all media and interested South Africans to source the copy from the Hawks and National Prosecutions Authority (NPA) so that they have accurate information. 2) The Police case against Pule Mabe does not mention my name as a beneficiary of the ‘stolen’ millions, instead mentioned a number of recipients, most of whom are his private companies, his friends and family members, and the ANC Youth League which he paid R100 000. 3) The Police case does not in anyway suggest that I received R30 000 from Pule Mabe, including from the R100 000 of the ‘stolen’ money he paid to the ANC Youth League account. 4) If there is any money that I exchanged with Pule Mabe when he was Treasurer General of the ANC Youth League was solely for organisational work as I was a member of the National Executive Committee and National Working Committee. 5) The bank statements I could retrieve online confirm that I never received a R30 000 payment from Pule Mabe. 6) I believe that those who ‘stole’ money should be held accountable and should not resort to desperate attempts to implicate others. Those are the concrete facts that define the whole development, and I invite real Journalists to source proper information from the Hawks and NPA, and will confirm exactly what I mentioned above. The only other source of this misleading information is Pule Mabe because he said that he will try to drag the leadership of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) into his private problems so that he can get some sympathy from his political associates and try to divert attention. Pule Mabe tries to implicate me because in the EFF Professionals Network Seminar on Friday the 5th of November 2013, I correctly and openly said that the arrest of Pule Mabe is not abuse of State institutions, but exercising of rule of law. My Legal representatives will write to the Sunday World to ask for the withdrawal the misleading story on their front page, which should be withdrawn with an apology on the front page. Failure to do so will leave me with no option but to take the matter to Court. I take this approach because it is apparent that the story was meant to cause damage to my character as a South African, and particularly as part of the collective of the EFF, which stands for accountability, open and corrupt free society. The Sunday World will not be able to point to any other source of their misleading information except Pule Mabe, who has misled them. ISSUED BY FLOYD SHIVAMBU
